The journal Tautosakos darbai / Folklore Studies is published by the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. Vilnius University supplies it with the opportunity to use the journal publication platform and does not participate in the creation of its content.
Focus and scope. Tautosakos darbai / Folklore Studies is a peer-reviewed open access journal publishing studies in folklore, mythology, cultural anthropology, ethnomusicology, ethnology, narratology and other related disciplines relevant in terms of cultural history and contemporary cultural processes. The journal aims at disseminating the results of folk culture research, promoting exchange of the scholarly ideas and initiating diversity of the interdisciplinary approaches. The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, important documents on the scholarly history and folklore source materials with scholarly commentaries, as well as information on the relevant academic activities.

Publication frequency – two volumes per year.
Languages. Articles are published in Lithuanian or English.
Charges. No payments for publication or contribution are applied.
Funding. Since 2016, the journal has been funded by the Research Council of Lithuania under the State Program for Lithuanian Studies and Dissemination 2016–2024.

We are members of the The Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4OA) which is a collaboration between scholarly publishers, infrastructure organizations, librarians, researchers and other interested parties to advocate and promote the unrestricted availability of the abstracts of the world's scholarly publications, particularly journal articles and book chapters, in trusted repositories where they are open and machine-accessible.
The journal is a participant of Open Archives Initiative. The Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) is a low-barrier mechanism for repository interoperability.
History. Publication of the research journal Tautosakos darbai / Folklore Studies was launched in 1935 by the Lithuanian Folklore Archives established at the same time. It was edited by the first director of the Archives Jonas Balys. Until 1940, seven issues of the journal appeared; afterwards its publication was disrupted for decades, along with folklore research periodicals in general. After restoration of the Lithuanian independence, when establishing and re-establishing processes in scholarly periodicals gained momentum, the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, the main center in folklore research, also renewed publication of the journal in 1992, continuing it to this day. Until 2012, the editor-in-chief of the journal was Leonardas Sauka; in 2013–2021 the editorial board was led by Bronė Stundžienė; and since 2022 – by Vilma Daugirdaitė.
The journal is biannual; it is published using Open Journal System (OJS) platform and in hard copies. Every issue of the journal is edited by an individual special editor.
